City parking charges to increase

Plans to increase the cost of long-stay car parking in council-run car parks in Bristol have been approved.

The 25% rise is part of a move to discourage all-day parking and encourage use of park-and-ride schemes.

Charges for eight hours are set to rise from £4 to £5, and from £8 to £10 for more than eight hours.

The cabinet also agreed to introduce residents' parking permits in some areas to stop commuters "dumping" their cars outside people's homes all day.
